When it snows (and snows and snows), you need to find a way to keep yourself entertained indoors. Fortunately for Dahlia, she received a great Hanukkah present that she really, really enjoyed. It was a copy of "Yoga Pretzels." Dahlia loves doing yoga, and she would often show off her skills -- downward dog, cat/cow, cobra and various other positions. The only thing better than showing off for her parents was watching herself in the mirror:
Of course, true Minnesotans don't let a little bit of snow keep them inside all the time! Even though it had been months since they'd seen the grass or ventured into their backyard, one day Dahlia decided that she just had to go on her slide. Her mom shoveled a path through the snow so that they could get to the slide:
Despite her mom's best efforts, the slide was still almost completely buried in snow. Dahlia managed to go down the slide, but even she was starting to get tired of the snow!
Another highlight of the winter was the weekend that Shabbat Teddy spent at Dahlia's house, joining Dahlia and her family for a festive Shabbat meal. Dahlia led her family in the Shabbat blessings, but that wasn't all that unusual. She often blesses her food in her own unique way before eating dinner. She typically starts with "baruch atah adonai eloheinu melech haolam..." (Hebrew) and then adds on "itadakimasu" (Japanese) before finishing with "Enjoy your food!" Challah, and just about anything else, is especially tasty when it's blessed in three languages:
As Dahlia approached three and a half, she started to develop her own sense of fashion, learning how to put together outfits and accessorize. Fancy sunglasses add a touch of class to any activity:
Here are a couple of her favorite outfits. The first is a combination of a flower dress, purple spotted tights, and a backpack. A couple of times a week Dahlia would also declare that it was a "licious" day. The most common ensemble was her "pinkalicious" outfit, but on other occasions she went to school dressed as "purplelicious" or "bluelicious." It can be difficult to keep up with such a fashion plate!
As Dahlia's vocabulary continued to expand, she also became chattier. Some of her soliloquies were very entertaining. Here she's telling her parents what she wants to be when she grows up:
