Jonah Turns One

Jonah turned one at the end of April. At age one, he is 28 3/4 inches tall and 20 lbs. He's a little bit on the smaller side (10-25th percentile), but hopes to get bigger with plenty of hearty eating in the future. He loves to play peek-a-boo and is almost always smiling and laughing. He loves watching his sister and other older kids play and almost always tries to join in with them. He also loves reading. While he thinks that reading stories and turning pages are fun, his favorite part of reading is backing into someone's lap to tell them that it is their turn to read to him. He can clap, wave goodbye, and follow simple directions. He can also let the world know when he's not pleased about something. He feeds himself with his fingers and loves to hold spoons and attempt to feed himself with utensils as well.

At school Jonah celebrated his first birthday by having an applesauce party with his pals. His actual birthday also happened to coincide with a school fundraiser at two of his favorite local restaurants, so he had a grand night out on the town. What could possibly be better than a scrumptious meal of macaroni and cheese and meatballs followed by some Ben and Jerry's ice cream? Yum yum!

The following weekend, Jonah celebrated his big day with a special birthday cake:

Jonah (in the birthday crown his teachers made him) had never had birthday cake before, so at first he looked it over suspiciously:

After looking it over, Jonah decided that the birthday cake looked okay and took a big bite:

One bite led to another and then another and before you could say, "Happy birthday, Jonah!" the cake had completely disappeared! Well, except for the crumbs in his bib and the icing on his face. I guess he liked it:

After the cake, it was time to open his birthday presents. Jonah got some great stuff! Apparently word had gotten around that he loves to push buttons that make noises and play with shovels:

Jonah's Saba and Grandma came to town for the big birthday shindig, and fortunately they brought some good spring weather with them. One of Jonah's favorite pastimes is playing with bubbles. He likes to chase the bubbles and play with the wands, and occasionally he'll even attempt to blow toward the wand:

Thanks for coming to visit us to help celebrate Jonah's first birthday, Grandma and Saba!
