The month of May seemed to fly by in no time at all. The weekdays were as busy as ever, Saturdays were spent at Japanese school, and Sundays were always full of fun and exciting activities.
Dahlia got more used to Japanese school and even claimed that she enjoyed it. She definitely enjoyed one annual tradition: field day! The students were divided into a red team and a white team and competed in all sorts of activities. Dahlia was intimidated by the big crowd and the noise, so she declined to participate in most of the events. However, she was willing (sort of) to show off her team colors:
As the weather warmed up, Dahlia and Jonah (and their parents) began to participate in more outdoor activities and learned more about what the Twin Cities have to offer. As soon as they realized that it involved a parade, they headed over to St. Paul for Grand Old Day. While they waited for the parade, which was even later than they were, they had a picnic. Jonah was very concerned that his daddy wasn't getting enough to eat, so he decided to take matters into his own hands and feed him!
As expected, the parade was a tremendous success. Dahlia enjoyed collecting candy from some of the participants, and Jonah was impressed by all of the animals. After the parade ended, it was time to enjoy the rest of the festival. After a while, Jonah was exhausted from dancing to the jazz band and decided to take a nap while Dahlia showed off her new "Pink Panther" balloon:
Another highlight of Grand Old Day was what seemed like the world's biggest inflated slide. Dahlia and her mom just couldn't pass up the opportunity to go for a ride!
Of course, Dahlia and Jonah didn't have to leave the house to have a good time. One lazy Sunday morning, Dahlia decided to rearrange the furniture so that she could pretend to drive a train. She decided to read the newspaper (just like Mom and Dad) while she waited for a passenger to climb aboard:
Finally someone showed up who was interested in going for a ride. "Excuse me, miss. Is this the 9:30 train to Yogurt Town?"
As the train episode demonstrates, Jonah loves to do anything that his sister is doing and to be anywhere that his sister is. He even likes to wear her necklaces and other accessories. In the first picture he looks like he's ready for Mardi Gras. In the second picture, he's doing his MC Hammer impersonation. U can't touch this!

While Dahlia is often shy and quiet in new (or noisy) environments, watching from the sidelines while she gets her bearings, she is always exuberant and full of energy when she's with her family and friends. She has a couple of very good friends at school and enjoys meeting them for play dates outside the classroom. Dahlia loves to do difficult puzzles, color, cut paper, glue, and do all sorts of arts and crafts. She hates to brush her teeth and hair, but every now and then she'll insist on creating an exotic hairstyle:
