At the beginning of April, just a few weeks before his first birthday, Jonah decided to let go of his push toy and take a few steps on his own. As you can see in this video, he was very proud of himself. Once he figured out how to walk, he was in constant motion and always on the go!
Jonah wanted to look his best for his first birthday, so his mom took him for his first haircut. Jonah was so surprised and confused by what was going that he didn't make a single sound or move an inch, winning him the title of "easiest first haircut ever." (By the time he went back for his second haircut, however, he figured out what was going on and was far less cooperative.):

Dahlia also celebrated a special occasion of her own. In early April (after a rigorous admission interview) she started to attend a Japanese weekend school in order to learn the language and about Japanese culture. Every Saturday morning, she attends a preschool program in Japanese, featuring arts and crafts, singing and dancing, and other activities. During the week, Dahlia has Japanese "homework" that she has to prepare before the next class. The goal of the preschool program is to the prepare the children for an elementary school program that is conducted entirely in Japanese. On the first day of Japanese school, Dahlia and her classmates got all dressed up for the official Entrance Ceremony. Their teachers soon discovered that getting everyone lined up for a class picture was as challenging as herding cats:
